Tap in Rio

Posted by Steven Harper
Tap in Rio is a yearly event that takes place on the last week of January (summertime in Brazil). It runs through six days of intensive workshops and master classes of tap, rhythm studies, body percussion, Lindy Hop, improvisation and other themes of interest to tap dancers (Hip Hop, musical perception, stage floor amplifying, etc..). Performance evenings, a Tap Challenge, jam session, tap talks, and the “Outstanding Contribution Award” help to make Tap in Rio the central event in the calendar of Brazilian tap dancers. The event takes place in the amazing settings of the Nós da Dança studios, one block away from famous Copacabana beach. "What could be better....sweating like crazy in great tap classes and then jumping in the ocean to cool down...ahhhh....and all in January! At tap in Rio that is exactly what you do. The classes are hard hitting, creative and varied. Steven Harper and Adrianna Salomão are inspired educators, in that they weave the culture of Brazil into their work and they pass on an art form rich in native music. If you want to really feel a bossa or a samba....and I mean REALLY.....then you need to be at Tap in Rio. Here you can meet some of the best young teachers in Brazil and jam with GREAT musicians. This is the place to immerse yourself in Brazilian culture, in the heart of Rio de Janeiro, one block from Copacabana beach." Heather Cornell "Tap in Rio = Tap in Paradise. An experience you will cherish forever!! The rhythmic pulse of the samba beat and the joie de vivre of the people, together, make the festival an incredibly inspiring and reinvigorating celebration. The positive energy and enthusiasm of the hosts Steven Harper and Adriana Salomão creates a beautiful sense of community for all of the students and teachers. You will enjoy challenging, musically and technically inspiring classes, taught by passionate and accomplished teachers. And then, you can take a break to savor the delicious Brazilian food on Copacabana beach, just blocks away from the studio. The Jam Session is brought to life with the sounds of Brazil and the excitement of the community. The showcase is an awesome platform to be inspired by the works of others. You will leave this festival with a new sense of musicality, more passion in your dancing, and refreshed by the beautiful landscape and culture. This is a mandatory annual event for me. I drop everything and go!! There is no better feeling than to celebrate Tap Dance with these amazing dancers in one of my favorite cities in the world! " Chloe Arnold Language Most classes are held in Portuguese, except those taught by foreign teachers. Many participants (students and teachers) have good notions of English so that partial translation during classes is possible. In any case, this is a wonderful opportunity to plunge into the “Brazilian way of tap”! Website www.tapinrio.com.br Contacts tapinrio@gmail.com / stevenharper2@gmail.com
