Steven Harper’s career spans over three decades. Although an American citizen, he grew up in Europe and has been living in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, since 1991, where he became a strong driving force behind the tap dance scene, dancing, teaching, choreographing for dance companies, musicals and shows, as well as producing and performing in his own productions. Much in demand internationally, Steven gave over 200 workshops, took part in music and dance festivals or performed in 12 countries of 3 continents, such as the famed Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland (Jungle Tap, 2002), Back 2 Black (Rio de Janeiro, 2009), Rock in Rio (Rock Street stage, in Rio de Janeiro 2011 & 2013 and Lisbon in 2012 and 2014), International Body Music Festival (Keith Terry’s IBMF, São Paulo, 2012), the NYC Tap City (2000-2004), Montpellier Tap Festival (France), Paris Tap Fest (2014), Tap Ahead in Düsseldorf (Germany), and many others. He leads a tap company for which he has received a grant from the City of Rio de Janeiro. In May 2005 the company was highlighted in the Dance Spirit Magazine article “Tap dancing around the World - Five companies Impacting the International Scene”. He is a board member of the International Tap Association and writes for several dance newspapers and magazines. He organizes since 2002 the annual festival Tap in Rio, the most important of its kind in Brazil.. He currently presents the show Saguibatu across Brazil and produces the Tap in Rio festival since 2002.
